Migration

Having recently completed a study of jellyfish in oils (which I still have to share, oops), I felt inspired to try a more imaginative piece that had a mass of them rising from the water to form a glowing migration in the sky.

This was my first foray into digital painting since I switched to oils about a year and a half ago! It was an awesome challenge--some skills have flourished unexpectedly, while others took a while to translate.

I thought the process of this one was especially interesting, so I shared the unedited timelapse here (check out my store page) and on my Gumroad. It's 18 minutes long and shows all my experiments and mistakes. I think we learn a lot from watching an honest workflow, and I hope you find it useful!
